Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, have arrested a 23-year-old female suspect allegedly connected to an armed robbery and kidnap operation where the victim was forced to transfer ₦24 million.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, command spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect, Okonkwo Onyinye, was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, October 27, 2025.
The ₦24 Million Heist
Detailing the victim’s ordeal, Ikenga explained that the man was double-crossed by five armed men operating in a Toyota Corolla at the Nkwelle GRA Gate.
The statement read:
“The suspects forcefully placed the victim in the boot of his vehicle and drove off to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his phone and transferred the sum of ₦24 million from his account before abandoning him and escaping with the vehicle.”
The Manhunt and Arrest
Following the report, a joint security team launched a manhunt. Acting on “technologically driven intelligence,” the team traced the suspects’ movements to Nawfia and subsequently to Ogidi, Idemili North LGA.
In Ogidi, the armed hoodlums engaged the operatives in a sporadic gun battle before fleeing the scene.
While the male suspects escaped, the team successfully recovered the victim’s snatched Toyota Highlander SUV (white, with registration number RBC 649 CN). The female accomplice, Okonkwo Onyinye, was arrested at the scene.
SP Ikenga confirmed that she is “currently assisting Police detectives with credible information that will aid in the arrest of other fleeing gang members.”
Police Intensify Patrols Ahead of Polls
This arrest comes as the command ramps up security across the state ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election, scheduled for November 8, 2025.
The heightened patrols are yielding results in other areas. In a separate incident on Monday, a combined team of Police and Agunechamba vigilantes in Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South LGA, successfully repelled an armed robbery attack.
Ikenga stated that after a “gunfire exchange, leading to the neutralisation of one of the attackers,” the others escaped into a surrounding bush with suspected bullet injuries. One pump-action gun was recovered from the scene.
