ABUJA – The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nominee, Dr. Bernard Doro, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The confirmation process was notably swift, with the screening lasting less than 30 minutes as lawmakers expressed confidence in the nominee’s extensive experience and leadership capacity.
Dr. Doro, a technocrat from Plateau State, replaces his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was recently elevated to the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Doro becomes the third minister from Plateau State to serve in the current administration.
During the brief session, Dr. Doro pledged to champion transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s humanitarian interventions. “I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he assured the lawmakers.
Satisfied with his credentials and vision, the Senate asked him to “take a bow and leave,” confirming his appointment without objection.
President Tinubu had formally requested the confirmation in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, citing Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.
According to Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Dr. Doro is a highly qualified professional with over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Born in 1969, the new minister holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice. He has frontline experience in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its next meeting.
