ILORIN – The Kwara State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of an abducted man, Haruna Ahamadu, from a criminal hideout in the Omu-Aran forest, Irepodun Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Thursday, Command spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that Mr. Ahamadu was rescued unhurt.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the operation was executed by a joint team of police operatives and local vigilante members, acting on credible intelligence.
The statement confirmed that two individuals, Ayisa Ibrahim (female) and Yakubu Hassan (male), have been apprehended in connection with the abduction. A manhunt is now underway for other members of the gang who are still at large.
The command described the operation as “another operational success” in its “sustained onslaught against criminal elements in the state.”
”Acting on credible intelligence, a combined team of police operatives and vigilante group rescued one Haruna Ahamadu unhurt from kidnappers’ den in Omu-Aran forest,” the statement read in part.
The spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, praised the “professionalism and dedication” of the operatives involved in the rescue.
”The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their dedication and assured members of the public that the Command remains fully committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents,” the statement added.
CP Ojo also extended appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, attributing the command’s achievements to his “policing vision,” which he said continues to “enhance operational efficiency and proactive crime-fighting efforts nationwide.”
The command urged residents to continue providing “timely and useful information” to assist security agencies, warning that there would be “no hiding place for kidnappers and bandits” in the state.
This latest breakthrough follows another recent success; just two days ago, the Nigerian Army handed over 23 rescued kidnap victims, freed from hideouts along the Kwara-Kogi border, to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
