Headline: Jigawa Police Debunk Viral Video of ‘Bandits’ in Capital, Confirm Men Were Local Hunters
DUTSE – The Jigawa State Police Command has refuted a “fake” viral video that caused public alarm, clarifying that the footage does not show armed bandits moving through Dutse, the state capital.
Police officials stated the video, which gained significant traction on social media, was “fabricated and misleading.”
The false report accompanying the video alleged that a large convoy of armed bandits on motorcycles was spotted traveling through the metropolis around 12:47 a.m. on October 28, 2025.
In a statement released to journalists on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Shi’isu Adam labeled the claim as “entirely false, misleading, and mischievous.” He urged the public to disregard the rumor and remain calm.
Adam clarified that an investigation had identified the individuals in the footage.
“Investigations revealed that the individuals captured in the video were members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation—hunters from Bauchi State,” Adam explained.
He confirmed the group was “simply returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area,” and was carrying traditional gear like Dane guns, bows, and arrows, not bandit weapons.
“This is pure misrepresentation that could spark needless tension,” Adam added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also appealed for calm, assuring residents they should “go about their lawful activities without fear.”
While thanking the public for providing useful information to security agencies, the CP urged citizens to “report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station and stay vigilant.”
The command reiterated its determination to maintain peace and order, stating it “stands firm in our mandate — together, we will keep the state safe.”
