Troops of 2 Division/Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three more kidnapped victims in Kwara State as the Nigerian Army steps up its offensive against bandits terrorizing communities in the region.
Latest Rescue Operations
The latest rescues occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, during coordinated operations in the Babanla Forest.
- Oluwabusayo Taiwo (aged 25) and her three-year-old son, Taiwo Irayomide, were rescued after troops from the Patrol Base Babanla stormed a suspected bandit hideout. The mother and son were abducted at Oke-Ode on September 28, 2025.
- In a separate operation the same day, troops on routine patrol rescued Mr. Mohammed Sanni (aged 40), a local tea seller from the Garkarima community. The bandits reportedly fled upon sighting the patrol team, abandoning Sanni, who was found injured. Troops recovered one Dane gun and a cutlass from the scene.
All rescued victims are receiving medical attention and first aid at the patrol base clinic and will be reunited with their families soon, according to a statement by Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin.
Sustained Military Success
These operations follow a series of successful rescues earlier in the week:
- Barely 24 hours prior to Saturday’s operation, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA freed two kidnapped victims in Idofin, Irepodun Local Government Area, following a fierce gun duel.
- Earlier in the week, the army also rescued two persons in Lafiagi after engaging suspected bandits who had abducted them from a nearby village.
Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and swift response, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining operations to flush out criminal elements and restore peace and stability across Kwara State and its environs.
Community Concerns
Residents in parts of Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi LGAs have repeatedly called for a stronger security presence as bandit activities continue to pose a threat to farming and local trade in the region. The coordinated response by troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA is seen as a renewed determination by the military to restore normalcy to affected communities in Kwara and neighboring states.
