The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a fresh public alert, warning Nigerians about a second dismissed officer allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud citizens.
The secret police identified the suspect as Victor Onyedikachi Godwin in a post shared on its official X handle, @OfficialDSSNG, on Sunday. Godwin, a former staff member, is reportedly engaging in “unscrupulous activities” and using the Service’s name for his schemes.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff. He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the DSS stated.
The agency strongly urged the public to desist from any dealings with Godwin. It also advised that all official enquiries and complaints should be directed to its verified communication channels.
This new disclaimer follows closely on the heels of a similar warning released just four days prior. That statement cautioned Nigerians against another dismissed officer, Barry Donald, also accused of impersonating the DSS for fraudulent purposes.
The DSS, founded in 1986, is Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, responsible for internal security and counterintelligence operations.
