Kidnap Kingpin Evans Re-Arraigned in Lagos Over Alleged Murder of Two Police Officers

Lagos, Nigeria – The convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans, was re-arraigned on Monday before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja. He faces an amended five-count charge, including murder and attempted murder, in connection with the deaths of two police officers.

The case, which was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker of the Ikeja Division, also involves Evans’ co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka.

At the resumed proceedings, the prosecution counsel, A. O. Azeez, requested the defendants be re-arraigned following the transfer. He noted that any pending plea bargain applications previously filed would not affect the process.

Evans and Emeka subsequently pleaded not guilty to the amended charges.

Allegations of 2013 Incident

The prosecutor stated that Evans and Emeka allegedly committed the offences on or about August 27, 2013, at approximately 10:00 p.m., along Third Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.

They are accused of killing two individuals, identified as Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, at the same location and time. The charges also include conspiracy to commit felony, specifically kidnapping and attempted murder. The offences allegedly contravene Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Ongoing Legal Battles

Evans, who has already been convicted in two of his previous criminal trials, is currently facing a total of three separate criminal trials involving allegations of kidnapping and murder.

Justice Ogala has adjourned the case to November 19, 2025, for hearing and the issuance of witness summons.

This report is based on court proceedings from the Lagos State High Court.
