Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have killed more than 50 terrorists and successfully repelled multiple, coordinated attacks on military locations across Borno and Yobe States.
The Nigerian military reported that the simultaneous assaults occurred between midnight and 4 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The terrorists targeted troops’ positions in Dikwa, Mafa, and Gajibo in Borno State (Sector 1) and Katarko in Yobe State (Sector 2).
In a statement released Thursday in Maiduguri, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK), Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, said the troops fought gallantly to repulse the attacks.
”In all instances, troops stood firm, fought gallantly, and professionally repelled the attacks, dealing the terrorists a heavy, decisive and bloody blow,” Uba stated.
The spokesman explained that the success was the result of a coordinated ground and air offensive. “The combined ground and air efforts resulted in the neutralisation of over 50 terrorists across all the locations,” he said.
Uba detailed that precision strikes from the Air Component of OPHK, coupled with “enhanced battlefield awareness provided by the Theatre’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets,” gave the troops the “leverage and impetus to respond with overwhelming and lethal force.”
Following the clashes, troops recovered a large cache of weapons, including:
- 38 AK-47 rifles
- Seven PKT machine guns
- Five RPG tubes
- Two GPMGs
- Hand grenades
- Thousands of assorted rounds of ammunition
Ground troops are currently pursuing over 70 wounded terrorists, with the Air Component maintaining close coordination to “ensure total clearance of the fleeing remnants.”
According to intelligence reports, the attackers who stormed Dikwa and Gajibo manoeuvred from the Cameroon axis, while those who attacked Katarko emerged from the Timbuktu Triangle, a notorious terrorist enclave.
The military acknowledged its own losses, stating that some “gallant troops” were wounded in action but are in stable condition. Uba added, “Some vehicles and buildings were also gutted by fire from the terrorists’ armed drones and RPG fire during the battle, especially in Mafa and Dikwa, where a part of the defences were momentarily breached.”
Despite the heavy onslaught, Uba confirmed that troops maintained control of all their positions.
”The Military High Command has commended the gallantry, doggedness and renewed charge of the troops,” the statement concluded. “Their steadfast performance once again reaffirms the military’s unwavering resolve and capacity to defend the nation’s territorial integrity.”
