The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its intention to “redesign governance” in Nigeria by dismantling the deep-rooted culture of godfatherism, budget padding, and patronage politics.
In a statement released Friday, the party pledged to introduce a new model built on transparency, citizen participation, and measurable performance.
The statement, titled “No Godfathers, No Budget Padding: How ADC Plans to Redesign Governance,” was shared by the party’s mobilisation wing, ADC Vanguard. It declared that Nigerian politics has “for too long revolved around personalities rather than principles.”
Transparency and Accountability
The ADC outlined a radical plan to ensure public funds are used effectively and can be tracked by citizens.
Key promises include:
A minimum of 70% of all budgeted projects will be mandated to directly benefit local communities.
An open digital ledger, accessible to all citizens in real-time, will be used to trace every naira spent by the government.
Blockchain-backed systems will allow the public to monitor funds from federal ministries down to the smallest local projects.
“Transparency is the foundation of a new social contract between government and citizens,” the party stated.
Youth Empowerment and Citizen Audits
The ADC said it would harness the potential of Nigerian youth by directly involving them in governance and accountability.
“We will harness Nigeria’s youth, our greatest natural resource, by channeling their creativity, digital skills, and entrepreneurial drive into the governance process,” the statement read. “Young Nigerians will not only be employed by the government but empowered to audit it.”
The party plans to use public dashboards and citizen-driven platforms to create an open system where “the people are both the beneficiaries and the watchdogs.”
A New Model of Leadership
The ADC rejected the “old order,” promising that under its leadership, government ministries and agencies would operate like “value-driven enterprises focused on measurable results rather than political favors.”
The party added that ministers would be appraised quarterly based on their impact on lives, infrastructure, and social indicators, not on their loyalty to party leaders.
“This is governance redesigned: a model where public service becomes a performance contract, not a reward for political allegiance,” the ADC declared. “A system where competence replaces connections, merit overtakes mediocrity, and transparency replaces corruption.”
The party concluded that it is not offering more empty promises but is building a new system, “one transparent policy at a time.”
