The Chief of the Air Staff, Nigerian Air Force, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has convened all Air Component Commanders from ongoing operations nationwide, tasking them to increase the rate of accurate air strikes.
Aneke specifically instructed the commanders to conduct flight operations more astutely and strike more forcefully against terrorists, insurgents, and armed criminal factions.
A press release issued on Wednesday by the Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said top operational commanders from every theatre of conflict, from the forests of Zamfara to the riverine territories of the Niger Delta and the rugged terrain of the North-East, were in attendance. Ejodame said the Air Chief highlighted that the days ahead require agility, precision, and intelligence-driven warfare.
“We must fly smarter and strike harder, not only to neutralize threats but to safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians. Every mission must demonstrate professionalism, purpose, and patriotism,” he was quoted as saying.
The CAS observed that the evolving nature of threats across theatres necessitates the synchronization of air, land, and maritime operations to achieve joint mission success. “Our operations must be guided by intelligence, coordinated, and focused. We will continue to collaborate closely with the sister services and other security agencies to ensure a unified effort in the fight against terrorism and criminality,” he said.
Aneke assured personnel of his administration’s dedication to personnel care and professional growth, noting that the days of under-resourced operations are over. “Every airman and airwoman has a role to fulfill in achieving our collective vision. I will ensure you are equipped, trained, and motivated to produce results,” he said.
The CAS also reaffirmed that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to the government’s vision of peace and security.
“We will apply decisive force against those who threaten our nation, with discipline, humanity, and professionalism. The Nigerian people, government, and international partners anticipate nothing less from us,” he declared.
Aneke implored the commanders to transform strategy into decisive action, sustain operational intensity, and ensure every sortie achieves measurable impact on the ground. Aneke was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Chief of the Air Staff in October 2025.
He assumed duty shortly afterwards. Since his appointment, Aneke has stressed the need for more proactive air operations and closer coordination with intelligence and other security agencies in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and violent crime.
