Uyo, Akwa Ibom—Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has challenged the state’s youths to prioritize innovation and reject the “entitlement culture,” stating that this mindset is the driving force behind the ARISE Agenda’s push for empowerment.
The Governor’s charge was delivered during the Visual Conference and Award Night organized by his Chief Photographer, Idara Idiakpan, in Uyo. Represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Ayakenyin, Governor Eno urged youths to be resourceful rather than expecting handouts.
“I implore our youths to stop nourishing and internalizing the entitlement culture. Look into yourselves; see where certain services are needed, and plug yourselves in, and the rewards will be unquantifiable,” Eno stated. He added, “I urge our youths to strive for innovations; like Idara is going, look for things that bring value to the people, and you will be rewarded immeasurably. That’s what our ARISE push for empowerment is all about: equipping our youths with skills that will translate into financial success.”
Celebrating Creativity
The event was hosted by the Governor’s Chief Photographer, Idara Idiakpan, who described the award night as a celebration of “creativity, purpose, and the power of a frame to tell a story.”
“Photography is more than just a craft; it’s a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and time,” Idiakpan said. “Tonight, we gather to celebrate the extraordinary talent of photographers who have dared to tell their stories with timeless images.”
Idiakpan disclosed that the conference and awards received 587 nominations across 15 categories from photography communities nationwide, calling each entry “a testament to the passion and dedication of artists who see the extraordinary in the ordinary.”
The ceremony was graced by several celebrated Nigerian photographers, including Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Emmanuel Oyeleke, and Bayo Omoboriowo.
