Calabar – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a public hearing to amend its constitution, a move aimed at enhancing inclusivity by strengthening representation for women, youth, and people with disabilities (PWDs).
The process began in Calabar on Monday, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu for an “expansive and all-inclusive” review of the party’s guiding document.
Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice-Chairman (South-South), stated that the exercise is designed to gather members’ voices and adapt the constitution to the evolving needs of the party and the nation.
“Our constitution is the cornerstone of internal democracy,” Giadom said. “Upon the directives of the President… the amendment should commence… to fill in the gap, accommodate the expansion of the stated organs of the party, and correct any existing grey areas.”
He emphasized that the goal is to create a constitution that “reflects the diversity of our great country” and “inspires our future to uphold the values of justice, peace, unity and progress.”
Specific changes were outlined by Alphonsus Eba, the South-South representative on the APC Constitutional Amendment Committee. Eba confirmed the committee’s responsibility is to “holistically” amend the constitution to expand accommodation for these under-represented groups.
