The Bauchi Police Command has apprehended two suspected armed robbers in Azare town, Katagum Local Government Area, recovering two locally made guns and a stolen motorcycle.
Command spokesperson, SP Ahmad Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement released to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi.
According to Wakil, the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 AM on Saturday. Police received a distress call from a resident in the Gandum Wambai area of Azare, reporting that armed individuals had invaded a business premises, GKY Food and Oil Mills. The suspects reportedly threatened the occupants with firearms before fleeing with a motorcycle.
“Acting promptly, operatives from the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters, working alongside local vigilantes, launched a pursuit,” Wakil stated.
The suspects were subsequently arrested at Lafiya village along the Lafiya–Gwasame road. “Items recovered from them include two locally made guns and the stolen Bajaj motorcycle,” the spokesman added.
Wakil relayed that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers and vigilante group members for their “swift and coordinated response.” The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining proactive measures against crime and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state.
The command noted that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network.
Wakil urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to assist the police in maintaining peace and security.
