ENUGU, Nigeria—Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor officially announced his decision at a press conference held on Tuesday in Enugu, the state capital.
Mbah stated that his decision was made to better serve the people of Enugu and to align the state’s vision with the APC’s platform for development and progress.
“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC,” Mbah told reporters.
He asserted his commitment to advancing the state’s interests, expressing confidence that the APC platform would provide greater opportunities for collaboration and growth for Enugu.
The move marks a major shift in the political landscape of Enugu State, traditionally a PDP stronghold.
Details on the political implications and reactions to the defection are expected to follow.
