Ciara Rings NGX Gong, Pledges to Showcase Lagos’ Creative ‘Beauty’ to the World

Lagos, Nigeria – American entertainer and Grammy Award-winner, Ciara Princess Wilson, has officially joined the mission to spotlight Lagos’ vibrant creative and economic scene on the global stage.

Her pledge came on Friday as she joined Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) to ring the closing gong, symbolically commencing the 15th-anniversary celebrations of Lagos Fashion Week 2025 (LFW2025).

Ciara, who arrived in the city on Thursday for the four-day fashion extravaganza, committed to leveraging her international platform to promote the “beauty, energy, and creative spirit” of Lagos.

A Commitment to African Fashion

In a statement signed by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, the global superstar expressed her profound connection to the city.

> “I’m excited to have been enlisted in the mission to promote African fashion designs where I will be using my platform to showcase the beauty of Lagos,” Ciara stated. “This occasion is really special for me, because my heart always beats better whenever I am in Lagos.”

She further highlighted the city’s rapid development, noting, “I’ve seen the evolution of the city from when I landed at the airport to when I moved into the metropolis. This speaks so loudly about the growth and how the economy is flourishing.”

Sanwo-Olu: Lagos is Africa’s Next Economic Driver

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who led the State Executive Council to the Exchange, positioned Lagos Fashion Week as a powerful reflection of the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit driving the state’s economy.

The Governor confidently stated that Africa is poised to drive the global economy within the next three decades, with Nigeria—and specifically Lagos—at the forefront.

“In Nigeria, there is a big city that speaks to everything about growth. It is called Lagos, which truly represents the entire dream of Nigeria and Africa,” the Governor affirmed, praising the city as a hub of youthful and change-oriented innovators.

He underscored the importance of the fashion industry’s business and innovation dimensions, leveraging creativity to attract tourism and foreign investment.

New Frontiers for Fashion Entrepreneurs

The special partnership between the Lagos State Government and the NGX is designed to open “new frontiers” for fashion entrepreneurs, aiding them in scaling their brands internationally. Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged continued policy support to unlock more access and opportunities within the creative sector.

Following the ceremony, the Governor also hosted creatives to a brunch at Lagos House, Marina, reiterating the government’s commitment to the sector. He noted Ciara’s presence as a highlight, underscoring the “growing global interest in Lagos as a hub of creativity and style.”

Lagos Fashion Week 2025, celebrating its 15th year under the theme “In Full Bloom,” runs from October 29 to November 2, 2025, bringing African creative excellence to the global spotlight.
