Ekiti 2026: ADC Aspirant Condemns ‘Barbaric’ Attack on Party Secretariat

A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has condemned the violent attack on the party’s secretariat, vowing that the incident will not break its resolve to take power in 2026.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when suspected hoodlums attacked the ADC state secretariat in Ado Ekiti, setting the building on fire. The attackers reportedly vandalized properties and assaulted party members who had gathered for the inauguration of new executives.

In a statement released on Wednesday, David-Adesua described the attack as “a desperate act of political cowardice and intimidation.”

“This attack is not merely against a building, but against the democratic will of Ekiti people who seek freedom from tyranny and misrule,” David-Adesua stated. “Let it be clear, no amount of destruction or deceit will break our resolve. From these ashes, we shall ‘Rescue, Rebuild, and Rise’ stronger, bolder, and more united.”

The aspirant vowed that the party would not be deterred “by agents of oppression or internal saboteurs who hide behind chaos to cover their failures.”

“We will confront corruption with courage, tyranny with truth, and fear with faith… Together, we will rebuild what has been destroyed, rekindle hope, and reclaim Ekiti’s destiny,” he added.

The ADC National Secretary and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who was in Ekiti for the planned inauguration, also condemned the violence. He described it as “a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.”

“It is regrettable that individuals who emerged through the democratic process can resort to violence and intimidation to suppress opposition voices,” Aregbesola said. “The attack on ADC members in Ekiti signals descent into fascism.”

The Ekiti State Police Command has stated that it has launched a high-scale investigation into the attack to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, for the Ekiti State governorship election.
