The First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged the 300 graduates of the Renewed Hope Initiative and Huawei “Women in Tech” training program to utilize their newly acquired proficiencies to engineer positive transformation in their communities.
Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal in Abuja during the closing ceremony of the Women in Tech training, which brought together female entrepreneurs from all six geopolitical zones, according to a statement released Friday by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi. This training represents a digital empowerment venture by the Renewed Hope Initiative, in partnership with Huawei Nigeria, designed to furnish female entrepreneurs with actionable technological skills to propel their businesses forward.
The program also strives to facilitate women’s meaningful participation in the digital economy and cultivate them as leaders of digital transformation locally, which is in line with the current administration’s push for economic inclusion and development.
Addressing the participants, Mrs. Tinubu asserted, “While the training has concluded, technology remains fluid. Your greatest asset is your capacity to persistently learn, evolve, and accommodate new technological trends relevant to your growth.
“Apply your new skills to resolve genuine challenges in your communities because authentic innovation is only worthwhile when it enhances lives. Remember, you belong to a wider network—lend support to one another and advance collectively. I express my gratitude to Huawei Technologies Company Limited for this collaboration with the RHI. Finally, I mandate all of you to mentor others within your respective businesses. Be a source of guidance for young girls and women who perceive technology as inaccessible to them.”
The First Lady further affirmed that this initiative perfectly complements President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is focused on fostering inclusive growth and digital empowerment for all Nigerians by accelerating economic diversification through industrialization and digitization.
She added, “When women are equipped with the appropriate tools and knowledge, they become catalysts for change in their families, communities, and the nation as a whole. The Women in Tech program, held between April and October 2024, has successfully endowed 300 women with critical digital skills, positioning them to flourish in today’s rapidly changing, technology-driven world. She observed that the participants embody the diversity and resilience of Nigerian women, encompassing everyone from university students eager to enter the digital economy to business owners seeking to scale their enterprises through innovation.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, acknowledged Nigeria’s partnership with the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative. He stated the program was more than just instruction, empowering women to assume their rightful position at the vanguard of the global digital economy.
“Today, we are immersed in a world of possibility and innovation where technology dictates progress. Investing in women’s digital skills is not merely a matter of inclusion but a prerequisite for national progress. We understand that when women flourish, nations prosper. Over the past year, we have witnessed something truly inspirational—women across the six geopolitical zones convened to learn, innovate, and embrace technology. To our achievers, you are all promoters of digital innovation and change. Please proceed and influence others in your communities. Let us remember that Renewed Hope is a reality we are all collectively constructing,” he said.
Additionally, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Abdullahi, characterized the program as fitting precisely with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He applauded the First Lady and Huawei for the initiative, commenting, “Mr. Chris said when you empower women, a nation rises, and I want to elaborate that when you empower a man, you empower an individual, but when you empower a woman, you empower a nation.
