Headline: Anambra Govt Denies Rumors of Soludo’s Plan to Arrest Bishops as ‘Malicious Propaganda’
AWKA – The Anambra State government has categorically dismissed widespread social media reports alleging that Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo plans to arrest and jail religious leaders, specifically Catholic Bishops and native doctors, if he is re-elected.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Commissioner for Information Dr. Law Mefor labeled the claims “false, baseless, and malicious.” He described the reports as “a clear example of misinformation intended to create tension and disrupt peace.”
Mefor attributed the rumors to political opponents, stating, “This is the handiwork of shadow opposition relying on propaganda due to weak campaigns; they should face their failing campaigns.”
The government assured the public, particularly the Catholic Church, of Governor Soludo’s commitment to protecting their rights and freedoms.
However, the Commissioner drew a clear distinction between the rumors and the government’s ongoing policies. He affirmed that the administration remains “committed to combating fake native doctors, fake Ndi Eze nwanyi, and fraudulent clergymen,” a crackdown known as ‘Oso Soludo’, which he stated “must continue.”
The statement concluded by noting the government will also collaborate with federal authorities to “eliminate certificate forgers.”
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for November 8, 2025. Governor Soludo is seeking re-election on the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform, facing approximately 16 other candidates.
