The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted reports that it suspended the profile of a candidate, Monsuru Aduragbemi, describing the allegations as deliberate misinformation.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board clarified that it was strictly obeying a court order and had not suspended the candidate’s account. The controversy stems from a lawsuit involving the candidate, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the University of Lagos (UNILAG), in which the court directed all parties to maintain the status quo.
JAMB explained that the “suspension message” being circulated is a standard, automated system alert that appears whenever a profile is locked to prevent any modifications by officials, institutions, or the candidate.
“The suspension message being mischievously misrepresented is a usual programmed default message that pops up on any profile on which any alteration… had been restricted,” the statement read.
The board noted that the restriction applies to all parties, meaning neither OAU nor UNILAG can proceed with their admission lists while the court order remains active.
According to JAMB, the candidate was already unaffiliated with either university “on her own volition” by September 25, 2025, when the suit was filed.
The board alleged that the reports are a form of media blackmail initiated by individuals it termed “conflict entrepreneurs” after their attempts to tamper with the candidate’s profile were unsuccessful.
“It was when the fraudulent effort to tamper with the status quo became unsuccessful that those sponsoring her apparently became frustrated and resorted to media blackmail in a bid to pressurise the Board into violating the court order,” Benjamin said.
Reaffirming its position, JAMB stated its commitment to the rule of law and urged the public to disregard the false reports.
