The Kano State Executive Council has sanctioned a total expenditure exceeding ₦8.2 billion for critical projects intended to rejuvenate the education, water supply, and energy sectors across the state. The approvals were announced following the council’s 33rd meeting, chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
🏫 Education Sector Interventions (Over ₦4.9 Billion)
The largest portion of the approved funds, over ₦4.9 billion, is earmarked for the education sector, focusing on enhancing facilities, academic standards, and accessibility:
* Infrastructure & Renovation:
* Phase II refurbishment of the Government Technical College, Ungogo.
* Operational & Academic Support:
* Clearance of existing debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers.
* Production of essential instructional materials via the Kano Printing Press.
* Completion and furnishing of the e-library at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.
* Funding for accreditation exercises at Kano State Polytechnic.
* Procurement of furniture and fittings for Northwest University, Kano, to boost efficiency.
💧 Water and Energy Projects (₦3.3 Billion)
A sum of ₦3.3 billion has been allocated to improve access to clean water and bolster energy efficiency for key state operations:
* Water Infrastructure:
* Funding for the construction of a modern water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai in Rano Local Government Area.
* Operational Sustainability:
* Payment of outstanding electricity and fuel bills accumulated by the State Water Board to maintain continuous operations.
* Settlement of liabilities owed to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
* Procurement of diesel (AGO) and petrol (PMS) for treatment plants.
* Overall management of the water supply infrastructure.
The government emphasized that these actions will “guarantee steady water supply, improve energy efficiency, and promote better living standards” for residents.
🛣️ Prior Infrastructure Investment Note
This new approval follows a previous significant investment reported in August 2025, where the Kano State Government approved contracts totaling over ₦40.8 billion for the construction and refurbishment of 17 township roads within the Kano metropolitan area.
