The Kebbi State Police Command successfully arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered a 14-year-old boy unharmed following a joint security mission in the Ka’oje area of Bagudo Local Government.
The two suspects, identified as Aliyu Alhaji Shehu (a.k.a. Altine), 25, and Abubakar Umar (a.k.a. Bube), both hailing from Orda village, were captured after a gunfight between police personnel and the gang deep within the Sada forest.
According to a press statement released on Sunday by CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, the action stemmed from a report that a group of five armed men had invaded the residence of Alhaji Buda Sambo on October 18, abducting his son, Aliyu Buda, and moving him to an undisclosed location.
The Operation and Subsequent Investigation
“Acting on reliable intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer for Ka’oje quickly assembled a combined squad of police and local vigilantes who tracked the criminals into the Sada forest and engaged them in a fierce exchange of fire,” the statement detailed. Due to the team’s superior firepower, the kidnappers were forced to flee into the forest, likely sustaining gunshot injuries.
The kidnapped minor was subsequently rescued without harm and, after receiving medical attention, was reunited with his relieved family.
During a post-operation search, a locally manufactured revolver and a single round of live ammunition were seized from the dwelling of one of the arrested individuals.
Broader Criminal Activities
Initial inquiries have established that the apprehended suspects and their accomplices—named as Dogo, Magaji, Bande, and Janyo, who remain at large—are responsible for multiple abductions. This includes the recent kidnapping of 70-year-old Alhaji Alti on October 28.
Police Commissioner CP Bello Sani praised the DPO and the Ka’oje team for their professionalism and rapid response. He urged them to maintain their collaboration with local vigilantes to effectively tackle kidnapping and other violent offenses in the region.
The Commissioner has since ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for advanced scrutiny and for efforts to locate the fugitives. He appealed to residents to remain composed and watchful, and to continue providing security agencies with actionable intelligence.
