The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) announced it has commenced an investigation into a staff member accused of using a personal bank account to collect payments for signage-related services.
The allegation, which first surfaced on social media, was described by the agency in a statement on Thursday as a “serious breach of financial and ethical standards” if found to be true.
“The Agency views this allegation with utmost seriousness and wishes to state unequivocally that such actions, if verified, are contrary to the established financial and ethical procedures governing transactions within LASAA and the Lagos State Civil Service,” the statement read.
The controversy began on Wednesday when a user on X (formerly Twitter), @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue), alleged that LASAA was using a personal bank account to receive payments. The post, which tagged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other officials, also claimed that customers were issued receipts that did not correspond with the amounts paid.
In response, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed via his X handle that the individual involved is a LASAA staff member and had been directed to face disciplinary action.
LASAA management, acting on the commissioner’s directive, said the staff member has been identified and ordered to report to the head office for “immediate investigation and disciplinary proceedings in line with public service rules.”
Wahab reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy for unethical conduct, warning that any public servant found engaging in such practices would face strict sanctions.
LASAA, which operates under the Ministry of Environment, is responsible for managing outdoor advertising and signage displays in Lagos. The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency, stressing that all payments must be made only through officially designated government channels.
“We appreciate the vigilance of members of the public who bring such matters to our attention,” the agency added, assuring that “necessary corrective measures will be taken to uphold public trust.”
LASAA stated that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
