London-Bound Train Attack: 10 Wounded, Two Arrested

British authorities have launched an investigation following a mass stabbing aboard a train destined for London, an assault that left ten people injured, nine critically. Two individuals have been taken into custody.

The violent incident took place Saturday evening on the typically busy route connecting Doncaster in northern England with King’s Cross station in the capital.

The attack forced the train to make an emergency stop at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire. Police confirmed that all ten victims were hospitalized, with nine sustaining injuries that are “believed to be life-threatening.”

Details of the Incident and Context

Police arrested two suspects at Huntingdon station and confirmed that counter-terrorism units are assisting the ongoing inquiry, though the assailants’ identities and motives remain unknown.

Eyewitness Olly Foster recounted the terror to the BBC, initially believing the shouts of “run, run, there’s a guy literally stabbing everyone” were a Halloween prank. He described passengers surging through the carriage, and his hand became “covered in blood” that had splattered onto his seat. Foster also described an older man protecting a younger girl from the attacker during the minutes-long ordeal, which he said “felt like forever.”

Other witnesses told Sky News they observed a man wielding a large knife on the platform after the train stopped, shortly before police used a Taser to restrain and arrest him.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the “appalling” event “deeply concerning.” In response to the disruption, London North Eastern Railway advised customers to avoid travel on the route on Sunday, warning of potential service cancellations.

Broader Knife Crime Concerns

The attack underscores the increasing challenge of knife crime in England and Wales, which government data confirms has risen since 2011. Despite having some of the world’s tightest gun laws, rampant knife violence has been labeled a “national crisis” by Starmer. His Labour government has prioritized efforts to curb the use of blades, resulting in nearly 60,000 knives being “seized or surrendered” recently.

This event follows other recent high-profile attacks, including a stabbing spree at a synagogue in Manchester in early October and a fatal daylight stabbing in London just days ago
