The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has witnessed a significant influx of members from opposition groups, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP), all within Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA)—the hometown of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
* No Remaining Opposition: Receiving the new members on Saturday, Benjamin Omale, the state chairman of the APC, confidently stated that this mass defection has effectively neutralized all opposition within Vandeikya LGA.
* Prominent Newcomers: Among those who switched allegiance were Dominic Akaaha, a former PDP gubernatorial aspirant, and Cletus Akwaya, who previously served as the State Commissioner for Information.
📈 Performance Cited as Reason for Defections
Speaking to reporters after the welcoming ceremony, Omale credited the opposition figures’ departure to the broad public approval and high performance rating of Governor Alia’s government.
* Sign of Public Acceptance: Omale noted that the caliber of politicians joining the APC signals that there is no longer any serious political opposition left in the local government. He interpreted the large-scale cross-carpeting as evidence that the populace is content with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the high-quality governance delivered by Governor Alia.
* Historic Event: Describing the event as a landmark moment for the party in Vandeikya, Omale said the turnout was a profound display of confidence in the Alia administration’s achievements across all sectors. He declared that Vandeikya LGA is now “sealed” for Governor Alia.
* Future Expectations: The APC chairman added that the party anticipates more defections from other local government areas throughout Benue State. He urged the people of Benue to support Tinubu and Alia in upcoming elections to ensure continued value in good governance and an improved quality of life for all Nigerians.
This event follows a pre-defection gathering hosted by Governor Alia a few weeks prior, which included current and former lawmakers from other political groups.
