NEMA Receives 150 Stranded Nigerians from Niger Republic

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has successfully received 150 Nigerians who were stranded in Agadez, Niger Republic. The group arrived safely at the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

According to a NEMA statement, the operation was part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) initiative, a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

Upon arrival, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation for all returnees. The group was then transported to Bizare Hotel Luxury Apartments for accommodation and profiling.

NEMA provided a demographic breakdown of the 150 returnees:

  • Adult Males: 88
  • Adult Females: 32
  • Male Children: 14
  • Female Children: 16

In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and dignified return, the agency provided immediate humanitarian assistance. This included food and water, medical care, ambulance services, and logistics support for their luggage.

NEMA highlighted the success of the joint effort, stating, “The collaborative efforts of NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and other key stakeholders ensured that the entire reception process was well coordinated, efficient, and centred on the dignity and welfare of all returnees.”
