Nigeria Kicks Off 2026 Hajj Prep: NAHCON Inspects Madinah Hotels and Catering Facilities

The countdown to the 2026 Hajj is officially underway for Nigerian pilgrims, and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is getting an early start.

In a proactive move to ensure the comfort and safety of Nigerian pilgrims, NAHCON has just concluded a thorough inspection of accommodation and catering services in Madinah. This crucial exercise, led by a high-level delegation from November 3rd to 5th, signals the commission’s commitment to improving service quality for the upcoming pilgrimage.

What Did the Inspection Cover?

The team, which included representatives from the Office of the Vice President and State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, had a clear mandate: to meticulously assess the readiness of all service providers.

* Hotel Vetting: On-the-ground checks were conducted on over 20 hotels in the Markaziyya area to verify their condition and operational documents.

* Catering Facility Scrutiny: Seven catering facilities were inspected to ensure they meet strict standards.

* Compliance Check: The primary goal was to ensure facilities fully comply with both Saudi regulations and NAHCON’s stringent guidelines on accommodation, feeding, safety, and hygiene.

The initial feedback is positive, with NAHCON noting a strong adherence to required accommodation and feeding standards.

Prioritizing Pilgrim Welfare

NAHCON’s Chairman/CEO, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, stressed the importance of integrity, impartiality, and transparency to the inspection committee. He underscored the commission’s top priority:

> “The welfare, safety, and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims remain our foremost priority, and every inspection outcome must reflect that commitment.”

This early vetting process is part of NAHCON’s resolve to strengthen its regulatory framework, enhance accountability among service providers, and ensure Nigerian pilgrims receive full value for their money.

Key Deadlines for the 2026 Hajj

To keep preparations on track, NAHCON has already released a definitive timeline, warning all state boards and licensed operators to strictly adhere to these deadlines:
