Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has declared that Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s performance over the last three years fully justifies his adoption as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election.
Fayemi spoke on Saturday at Ijelu-Ekiti during the inauguration of the newly constructed Itapa-Ijelu-Omu Road, an event marking the third anniversary of the Oyebanji administration. He lauded the governor for building on the legacy of continuity, prioritising key infrastructure like roads, and improving connectivity to boost commerce across the state.
Describing Governor Oyebanji as his “greatest achievement,” Fayemi stated, “Absolutely, he is my greatest achievement because I have my own imperfections, but he has managed to either correct or reduce them. God has been kind to us in Ekiti by giving us a governor who focuses on the transformation agenda and is not given to unnecessary politicking.”
He added, “We have every reason to be proud of him and no reason to abandon him. The success of this administration validates our belief in his purposeful leadership.”
The APC recently adopted Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 poll. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party confirmed the decision after the only other cleared aspirant, Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, voluntarily withdrew from the race and endorsed the incumbent governor.
In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji thanked his predecessor for laying a solid foundation that his administration is building upon. He noted that his achievements are a result of the collective efforts of successive administrations that shared a common vision for a prosperous Ekiti.
“I am glad we are able to finally complete this road. What is happening today demonstrates the benefits a state enjoys when there is continuity in government,” Oyebanji said. He credited Fayemi for breaking the jinx of discontinuity in the state, confirming that his administration had completed all road projects initiated by the previous government.
