The Edo State Police Command has detained two suspects for illegal possession of firearms during a sweep of the bush in the state.
In a statement on Monday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the command identified the suspects as individuals Julius Omagbogwu, 30, and Omika Musa, 45.
The statement reads: “The Edo State Police Command, in its continuous endeavours to rid the state of lawbreakers and confiscate unauthorised firearms, has achieved another breakthrough through a meticulously planned bush-combing operation executed by operatives of Ehor Division.
“On October 31, 2025, at about 08:00hrs, operatives of Ehor Division, headed by CSP Akwaha Steven, the Divisional Police Officer, alongside local vigilante personnel, undertook an intensive yet routine bush-combing exercise within Egbisi, Equaholor, and Uhi areas.
The operation was designed to dismantle criminal dens using the dense foliage as cover. This yielded favorable outcomes as three single-barrel shotguns were seized, while two suspects named Julius Omagbogwu, 30, and Omika Musa, 45, were taken into custody in connection with unlawful weapons possession.
“A preliminary investigation is underway, while efforts are being redoubled to trace the origin of the recovered firearms and dismantle the organised crime ring linked to the suspects.”
Ikoedem said that the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the Divisional Police Officer, Ehor Division, and his contingent, especially the local vigilantes, for their dedication, vigilance, and forward-thinking intelligence-gathering that led to the successful recovery. He further affirmed that the command remains steadfast in its objective to keep communities across the state safe, while urging citizens with any pertinent information to report the same through official channels.

Several offenders have been arrested, ensuring that those who have cases to answer are formally charged in court after investigation.
On March 28, 2025, an irate mob killed seven travellers in Uromi, Edo Central, over their suspected involvement in kidnapping. Guns were found in the truck transporting them to the northern part of the country, which provoked the mass assault of about 16 of them, with seven perishing in the process. This has not stopped the abduction of more citizens, as a retired school principal identified as Mr. Eliaser Olorunloju was recently seized near a Fulani settlement between Sasaro and Ayetoro along the dilapidated Igarra-Uneme-Nekhua–Ibillo road in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.
