TikTok has officially named BhadBoi OML’s hit track ‘Wasiu Ayinde’ as its top Nigerian Song of the Summer for 2025. The social media platform announced that the song dominated user feeds and inspired countless trends throughout the season.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Toyin Mustapha, TikTok’s Head of Music Partnerships for the UK, Ireland & Sub-Saharan Africa, said the track from the ‘Bhadboi’ album gained immense popularity due to its unique cultural fusion.
Mustapha noted that the song “masterfully blended a modern pop sound with traditional Yoruba influences from Fuji music,” serving as a prime example of “how artists are redefining Afrobeats through authentic fusion.”
He explained that the song’s success reflects the platform’s diverse list of trending tracks.
“While Nigerian artists like Davido, Olamide, and Rybeena topped the charts with their high-energy anthems,” Mustapha said, “the top ten also saw an impactful mix of gospel-inspired hits, [and] sounds from across Africa, including South Africa and Uganda, that resonated deeply with the Nigerian audience.”
Mustapha described TikTok as a space “where music truly comes to life,” allowing for song discovery, artist growth, and new opportunities.
“What makes TikTok special is the community where fans, creators, and musicians all come together to shape culture… in real time,” he added. “The Songs of the Summer showed how powerful that connection was and how TikTok continued to be the platform where Nigerian music could break boundaries and reach the world.”
The full top 10 list, he said, offers a deeper look into the “sonic diversity” of the Nigerian music landscape.
Key trends from the list included:
- Powerful Collaborations: Team-ups proved to be a “powerful formula for chart success,” with six collaborations making the top ten. These included “99” (Olamide, Seyi Vibez, Asake, Young Jonn, and Daecolm), “With You” (Davido and Omah Lay), and “Gaddem” (Rybeena & Shoday).
- Amapiano’s Enduring Appeal: The genre’s influence was “undeniable,” with tracks like “Ngishutheni” by Goon Flavour, Master KG & Eemoh demonstrating its unstoppable appeal across the continent.
- Emotional & Inspirational Hits: The platform saw a “growing appetite for emotionally-driven content,” with soulful tracks like Chella’s “My Darling” finding viral moments alongside high-energy dance hits.
Mustapha noted that these tracks “perfectly captured the creativity and vibrance at the heart of Nigeria’s youth and culture,” often fueled by memorable choruses used in dance challenges and lifestyle content.
He concluded that the 2025 list is “more than just a ranking,” proving TikTok’s role in pushing diverse local artists to the forefront and “cementing its position as a cultural incubator” for finding a global audience.
